The short answer

A superautomatic espresso machine does most of the work for you. Models differ in grinder settings, milk handling and price. On 6 November 2026 Breville listed its Oracle Jet at US$1,999.95. De'Longhi listed its Magnifica Evo at US$899.95. 2 3

What a superautomatic machine does

Think of it as an espresso barista on your counter. You fill a bean hopper and a water tank, then press a button. The machine takes it from there.

Wikipedia gives the goal as a shot "produced by a single touch from the user." 1 That's the line between this kind of machine and one where you grind, dose and tamp yourself.

The names vary. Shop pages say "superautomatic," "super auto" and "fully automatic." Makers don't use them the same way, so read what each model lists. We haven't used any of these machines. This page lines up what two makers say on their own US product pages, checked on 6 November 2026.

Breville Oracle Jet: grind, dose and tamp for you

Breville sells the Oracle Jet as a super automatic machine. Its page says it can "Auto grind, dose & tamp into the professional-style 58 mm portafilter." 2

The page describes a "Fully-integrated high carbon hardened steel precision burr grinder with 45 grind settings." 2 Our guide to what makes an espresso grinder different explains how grinder adjustment works.

Milk is automatic too. Breville promises "silky microfoam hands-free, with settings optimized for dairy, soy, almond and oat." 2 The price on breville.com on 6 November 2026 was US$1,999.95. 2

Breville's own range has other machines too. Our page on the Breville espresso machine range covers four of them.

De'Longhi Magnifica Evo: a lower price, a different milk setup

De'Longhi lists the Magnifica Evo with "7 One-touch Recipes." 3 The page says it has "13 grind settings." 3

Milk works differently here. De'Longhi lists a "Traditional milk frother" that it says will "easily prepare perfectly textured foam with milk and milk alternatives." 3 That's a different approach from Breville's hands-free wording, so check how much of the milk step each machine handles before you buy.

On delonghi.com's US store on 6 November 2026 the listed price was US$899.95. 3 That's US$1,100 less than the Oracle Jet's listed price on the same day, though the two machines differ in grinder settings and milk features, so the gap isn't the whole story.

How the two compare

Here's what the two makers' pages say, side by side. Prices are in US dollars, checked 6 November 2026.

- Price: Oracle Jet US$1,999.95; Magnifica Evo US$899.95. 2 3 - Grind settings: Oracle Jet 45; Magnifica Evo 13. 2 3 - Milk: Oracle Jet "silky microfoam hands-free"; Magnifica Evo a "Traditional milk frother." 2 3 - Drinks: the Magnifica Evo page lists "7 One-touch Recipes." The Oracle Jet page we read didn't give a drink count. 3

Neither page tells you which one makes better coffee. We can't say either, because we haven't tasted from them. A spec sheet is a starting point, not a verdict.

Questions to ask before you buy

Skip the marketing words and ask plain questions.

Do you drink milk drinks every day? Then compare the milk systems closely. Do you care about grind control? Then compare grind settings and read how the grinder is adjusted. Do you have the counter space? Check the machine's width, height and depth on the maker's page.

Beans matter whatever you buy. Our guide to espresso beans, roast and freshness is worth a read before you stock the hopper.

You'll also be cleaning it. De'Longhi's page lists "Removable and dishwasher-safe parts for easy cleaning." 3 Ask the same of any model you consider.

Looking after one

Both pages list an "Instruction Manual," so start there. 2 3

De'Longhi's box contents are "Descaler 100mL, Instruction Manual & Quick Start Guide." 3 If your maker names a descaler, use that one and the steps in the manual. Skip internet shortcuts.

Leave the case closed. Hot water, steam and mains power are inside. Our page on the Breville descaling page shows what one maker's own pages say.

Frequently asked questions

What is a superautomatic espresso machine?

Wikipedia says the aim is a shot of espresso "produced by a single touch from the user." Models differ in how much they automate, so read the maker's page. 1

Is an espresso machine super automatic the same as a fully automatic one?

Shops and makers use the names loosely. Rather than rely on the label, check what the model's page says it does, such as grinding, dosing, tamping or milk. The Breville Oracle Jet page says it can "Auto grind, dose & tamp into the professional-style 58 mm portafilter." 2

How much does a super auto espresso machine cost?

It depends on the model. On 6 November 2026 the Breville Oracle Jet was listed at US$1,999.95 and the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo at US$899.95, both in US dollars. Prices change, so check the maker's page. 2 3

Can I clean a super-automatic machine myself?

Follow the instruction manual for your model. De'Longhi lists "Removable and dishwasher-safe parts for easy cleaning" for the Magnifica Evo. Don't open the machine itself. 3
