The short answer
A fully auto espresso machine takes whole beans and makes the drink at the touch of a button. Philips says its Series 3200 makes "Espresso, Coffee, Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato at the touch of a button." 2 De'Longhi says its Dinamica range offers "13 delicious automatic hot drink recipes" on one page, though drinks "may vary according to the machine's model." 3
What fully automatic means
Wikipedia says espresso machines "may be manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic in operation." 1 It also notes that a machine "may even incorporate a built-in coffee grinder." 1
Put those two ideas together and you get a bean-to-cup machine. You fill a hopper with beans and a tank with water. The machine grinds, brews and pours. Want less automation? Ways to make espresso without a machine go the other way.
Shops use the name loosely. Some pages say "superautomatic," some say "fully automatic," and some say both for one model. Our page on superautomatic espresso machines looks at how two other models are described, so this page sticks to two different ones.
We haven't used any of these machines. What follows is what the makers say on their own pages, read on 7 November 2026.
How Philips describes its Series 3200
Philips calls the Series 3200 a fully automatic machine. Its page promises "5 delicious fresh bean coffees, easier than ever." 2
The drinks list is short and plain: "Espresso, Coffee, Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato," each "at the touch of a button." 2 The page also lists a touch display.
Milk goes through a part Philips calls LatteGo. The page says it "can be cleaned in as little as 15 seconds." 2 Note "as little as." That's a best case, not a promise for every rinse. 2
The page we read didn't show a price. Check Philips or the shop you plan to buy from, and note the date and the currency.
How De'Longhi describes its Dinamica range
De'Longhi sells Dinamica as a range, not one machine. The range page lists four versions. Two of them list "Automatic milk frothing," and the plain Dinamica lists a "Manual milk frother." 3
On grinding, the maker says "Dinamica automatically transforms your favourite beans into the perfect coffee with the richest flavour in every cup." 3 That's marketing wording, not a measurement.
The range page counts "13 delicious automatic hot drink recipes." It then adds a limit: "Please note that the drinks availability may vary according to the machine's model." 3 Count the drinks on the exact model's page, not the range's.
One version offers the "Ability to brew from your phone." 3 Ask whether you'd use that before you pay for it.
Milk: the part that differs most
Both makers handle milk in their own way. Philips has LatteGo. De'Longhi has an automatic frother on some Dinamica versions and a manual one on another. 2 3
De'Longhi adds a caution. "Frothing quality may differ according to the type of milk or plant-based drink used, or the individual brand, ingredients and nutritional values." 3 If you use oat or almond milk, expect to try a few brands.
If you want to learn the manual way, our guide to latte art and the microfoam behind it shows what a good result looks like.
Cleaning and upkeep
Every one-touch machine needs care. De'Longhi says Dinamica has "dishwasher safe components" and "a detachable, easy-to-clean cleaning brewing unit for the occasional intense cleaning." 3
Philips lists a descaler marked "1 descaling cycle." It also lists a Brita Intenza+ water filter cartridge marked "Replace every 2 months." 2
Follow your own manual for every step. Use the descaler the maker names. Never open the case; hot water, steam and mains power are inside. For an example of what a maker's own steps look like, see how Breville explains descaling.
Questions to ask before you choose
Skip the slogans. Ask plain questions.
Do you drink milk drinks? Then read the milk section of the manual first. Is the machine for one person or a busy kitchen? Check the water tank size on the maker's spec page.

Frequently asked questions
What is a fully auto espresso machine?
Wikipedia says espresso machines "may be manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic in operation." In a fully automatic machine, the maker's pages describe grinding and brewing at the touch of a button, though what each model automates differs. 1 2
Is an automatic espresso machine the same as a fully automatic one?
The names overlap in shop listings. Check what the model's page says it does, such as grinding, brewing or milk frothing, rather than relying on the label. De'Longhi's range page, for instance, says "drinks availability may vary according to the machine's model." 3
Does a fully automatic espresso coffee machine make milk drinks?
Some do. Philips lists Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato for its Series 3200. De'Longhi lists a manual milk frother on the plain Dinamica and "Automatic milk frothing" on two other versions. 2 3
How do I clean one?
Follow the instruction manual for your model. De'Longhi says the Dinamica has "dishwasher safe components" and a detachable brewing unit. Never open the machine's case. 3
